Member NewsA message from the Handicap CommitteeJune 13, 2008 To: NLCC Membership From: The NLCC Handicap Committee The Handicap Committee reviewed the scorecards that were submitted for April and we’re pleased to report that there is marked improvement. Of the scorecards reviewed, roughly 80% of the cards were completed correctly. However, there is still room for improvement. Common errors, still evident, are lack of Local GHIN #’s and signatures by both the scorer and the attester. The Committee would also ask that when you submit a card that includes a Guest, that you please place a “G” for Guest in the Local # box. A question has been raised re practice rounds. It is the Committee’s position that scorecards need to be turned in for all rounds. As a reminder, Rule 8-4/b of the USGA Handicap System states that the Handicap Committee can modify or change a member’s Handicap Index for failure to post all scores. For you new members, we have attached a memo sent out last year outlining the role and responsibilities of both the Player as well as the Handicap Committee for your review. Should you have any questions, please ask a staff member in the Pro Shop or seek out a Member of the Handicap Committee. We will be happy to assist you. Tips of the Month Can I post scores on the Internet? Yes, but only if your club has specified that they want to offer this feature to their membership. NLCC offers this feature. To post a score on the Internet go to www.mgalinks.com. However, the scorecard still needs to be turned into NLCC Pro Shop on next visit to club. What do the different letters mean next to my scores? Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for Peer Review. It is the responsibility of the handicap Committee to insure the integrity of the Handicap System for the NLCC. In our efforts to comply with this responsibility, we are asking all members (Men, Woman, Juniors etc.) to adhere to the following rules and procedures. 1) All scores (home and away) must be posted and properly completed scorecards are to be submitted to the Pro Shop to be available for peer review. 2) Rounds played at other courses can be posted at the NLCC Pro Shop or on the internet using your GHIN number. However, scorecards for these rounds must be turned in at the NLCC Pro Shop. 3) Scores must be posted when at least seven holes are played (7-12 holes are posted as a 9-hole score; 13 or more are posted as an 18-hole score) 4) A properly completed scorecard has each players name, local number, date of play, as well as signatures of both the scorer and the attester. 5) If you play alone you are still responsible for posting a score and turning in a scorecard. You must indicate on the attester line that you played alone. 6) Prior to posting, all scores must be adjusted based on the application of “Equitable Stroke Control”. This mandatory procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes. Listed below is the table for adjusting your scores.
The Player and the Handicap Committee have the joint responsibility for adhering to these procedures. The Handicap Committee would appreciate your cooperation but should you have any questions, please see the pro Shop Staff or a member of the handicap Committee for assistance.
