Outing Tournament Information

Golf Outings at a Glance

top
  • Getting Started
    • First select a date for your event and contact Nabnasset Lake Country Club to determine if the date selected is available. Outings are scheduled on Mondays only.
    • Once the availability of your selected date has been established Nabnasset Lake Country Club must receive a deposit before your event's date is confirmed.
    • After your event date has been confirmed, it's time to plan for those important extras; menu selection, type of competition, long drive, closest-to-the-pin, hole-in-one contests, etc.
    • It's important to establish an entry fee which will cover your expenses and allow for extra prizes. Collecting the entry fee from the players prior to the event is the best policy.
    • Solicit donations from sponsors and inform them as to the number of players that will be participating. Arrange for sponsor signs and photos.

  • Scheduling of Groups
    • There are two options in the scheduling of golf outings, a Shotgun Start or Tee Times.
      • Shotgun Start: With a shotgun start, all groups (foursomes) of golfers begin play at the same time but on different holes. The benefit is that the entire group finished at the same time and can attend after golf functions together. A shotgun start is the most successful for most events.
      • Tee Times: Golfers tee off one group after the other, starting at the first hole. Tee times work well when all the participants in the outing cannot start at the same time. Using this format, groups will finish 8-10 minutes apart, affecting the timing of after golf events. This method is recommended for small groups.

  • Types of Competition: This may be the most important decision you make to ensure that your group has a fun yet competitive day. We can help you decide which competition is best for your group.
    • Scramble: A Scramble format enables all levels of players to participate. Each player hits from the tee box, the best shot is selected and all players play from that location. This continues until the ball is holed out. There is one score on each hole for the group. A Scramble allows a beginner to contribute to the success of the team without having to play their own ball the entire round.
    • Best Ball (Gross and Net): This format is appropriate for a group of experienced players who already have established handicaps. Each player plays their own ball the entire round and the best score from each hole is selected as the team score. Prizes are based on both gross (actual) and net (actual score minus handicap) scores.

Experience shows that the scramble format is the quickest and most successful for most events.
